Clarity on the Memo for the SACSSP on the Compilation of the Voter's List

Since the SACSSP circulated a memo on the 12th August entitled: NOTICE FOR THE SUBMISSION OF A DATA COLLECTION FORM IN ORDER FOR THE SACSSP TO COMPILE A VOTER'S LIST OF ELIGIBLE MEMBERS TO PARTICIPATE IN THE ELECTION OF MEMBERS OF THE PROFESSIONAL BOARD FOR CHILD AND YOTUH CARE (PBCYC) the NACCW has received many phone calls enquiring about this.

Many people have asked if they need to submit their names again as they already did so for the last data-base that was required by the Interim Structure for Child and Youth Care Work.

The answer to this question is YES!

The SACSSP have started a new data-base for child and youth care workers, and will NOT take names from the previous data-base that was submitted to them.

So...

  • This is the opportunity that the child and youth care field has been advocating for ever since the first PBCYC ended its term of office in 2009.
  • If you wish to participate in the election of a body (the PBCYC) which will act on behalf of the profession, you will need to follow the instructions and submit your data.
  • The SACSSP say you can fax it or email it or post it.
  • BUT your data form MUST reach the SACSSP by 4pm on the closing date.
  • If some of the information is lacking, or it does not reach them ON TIME, you will not be able to vote in the election.

Remember: They are asking for the following documents to be sent with your application.

  • A CERTIFIED copy of your ID is required.
  • Proof of your employment as a child and youth care worker is required.
    • This means just that your organisation must write a letter to say you are employed as a child and youth care worker.
    • The letter must be on a letterhead of your organisation
    • It must be signed by the director or someone in top management of the organisation.

Who may vote?

  • Child and youth care workers who are working in any range of settings may vote. If you are in a community-based organisation - such as Isibindi or Starfish - or a child and youth care centre, you are eligible.
  • Many child and youth care workers are working in other settings. These colleagues are also eligible.
  • REMEMBER, you may still be completing your FETC, or another qualification, but if you are employed to work as a child and youth care worker at the same time as you are studying, you are eligible to go on the voter's roll and to vote.

Please hurry to get your paperwork done and participate in this very important event in our history as a field.
