Child Protection Programme
Child and youth care workers (CYCWs) identify child survivors of abuse and neglect, and these cases are reported to NACCW and to other relevant stakeholders. CYCWs work with children through ongoing follow up visits and case management to help them through their healing process – whether through Isibindi Ezikoleni or any other programme in which CYCWs are deployed to support children.
Residential Child Protection Programme
The Residential Child Protection Programme is run in collaboration with Childline and DSD. The programme brings together a group of child survivors of abuse over a period of seven days, during which they receive individual and group counselling; similarly, caregivers are provided with individual and group counselling. After this, the children and family receive ongoing aftercare support from the CYCWs.
Safe Space Programme
The Child Protection Safe Space Programme provides a safe space for children who have been sexually abused to engage in therapeutic and healing activities on the weekends and during school holidays. The objectives of the programme are to:
-
Complete the Child Protection 12-session Toolkit with children to facilitate their healing process.
-
Provide structured life skills activities that encourage reading, writing and artwork to further support their growth and healing.
-
Offer clinical therapy if qualified and professionally registered therapists are available.
-
Ensure referrals and ongoing case management with relevant stakeholders.
-
Provide aftercare support to each child based on their follow-up plan after the 12 sessions of the Child Protection Toolkit is completed.
