Training Child & Youth Care Workers

NACCW is an accredited training provider registered with the Health and Welfare Sector Education and Training Authority (HWSETA). NACCW delivers training on the Level 5 Occupational Certificate in Child and Youth Care Work.

Non-accredited training courses on offer cover topics where intensive exposure helps people to implement specific skills and knowledge. These include, amongst others, courses on restorative practices, creative activities and the management of child abuse.

DEVELOPMENTAL ASSESSMENT TRAINING

The course is to help better understand the developmental approach to assessments of young people by child and youth care workers and social workers and to be able to apply the concepts of developmental assessment to assessment tools.

A Career in Child and Youth Care Work

Child and youth work is a profession that is statutorily regulated in South Africa. The Social Service Professions Act (Act No. 110 of 1978) regulates the professional practice of social service professionals through the South African Council for Social Service Professionals (SACSSP), which is a statutory body established in terms of this legislation. Child and youth care workers can be prepared for registration at auxiliary or professional level, and there are training and educational opportunities for people to pursue the child and youth care profession in community, educational and residential group care settings in South Africa.
