A historical journey of Child and Youth Care in South Africa. by Mr Francisco Cornelius The history of social welfare services in South Africa dates to the early settlers who came to the shores of the country. Whilst there isn’t much documented information of specific services to the population back then, it can be traced in the pieces of documentation through the missionaries who traveled here. In this presentation, I will try to sketch a brief picture of how child and youth care evolved into what we have today. I will also touch on legislation, where it started and how we have progressed today.
